You may have heard that ARTA offers some of the best travel coverage available to retirees in Canada. It includes emergency coverage for sudden and unforeseen events, and has no termination age or stability clause for pre-existing conditions. Something that often leaves members scratching their heads, is that while ARTA is the provider of travel coverage for members, but Beneva is listed on ARTA membership cards, and further, when members call to make a claim, they talk to a company called AXA Assistance. So who exactly is Beneva? Are they ARTA? Are ARTA members covered by Beneva? Where does AXA fit in? It’s not too complicated, once it’s explained.
Your Provider Away from Home
ARTA is an expert on all things related to health-benefits – when it comes to Canadian concerns. When our members travel the world (something that many retirees love to do — repeatedly) ARTA relies on our partners to help our members out in the event of an emergency. That’s where Beneva and AXA come in.
When you find yourself in an emergency during your world travels, that is, anywhere outside of your province of residence, Beneva can find help for you. They’ll do this through their administrator, AXA Assistance. So, if your calls to Beneva are going through to a company called AXA, don’t panic, that’s all according to plan.
AXA will help you find a hospital that can provide the standard of care you need, and they can also arrange payments to the healthcare provider, so you don’t have to worry about how it will be billed, in most cases.
Non-emergency Travel Claims
What do you do when you get a massage or other paramedical service while on vacation? Does Beneva handle that too? Great question. Beneva is responsible for emergency situations only, so if you have scheduled a routine service, like a massage or dental work, or buy medication while abroad, you can claim those items normally, through your ARTA Benefits.
